Chinese medicine is a comprehensive system of medicine, that evolved in China over many generations, based on clinical experience. It utilizes unique methods of examination, diagnosis, and treatment. With the advent of the scientific method, it has continued to evolve and has been influenced and informed by modern Western medicine. Chinese medicine considers the entire person as a whole. Thus mind, emotions and body are all important and they all can have an impact on health and disease. The existence of an interrelation between the mind/emotions and the body has been recognized in various ways by Western science. We seek to regulate these three aspects of the person in order to achieve optimal health.
The main treatment methods in Chinese medicine are acupuncture and herbs. When acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are used, the choice of specific acupuncture points, or of a specific herbal formula, is tailored based on the characteristics of the individual patient. These two treatment methods have traditionally been used in combination, as their effects complement each other.
